Pilates Golf

Pilates Golf is built upon the established and very successful Pilates method of fitness, which is a contemporary, anatomically-based approach to the mind-body exercise regime developed by Joseph Pilates. Designed to develop optimal strength, flexibility, endurance and posture without building bulk or stressing your joints.

The Pilates method will help to sculpt your body without adding any bulk to your muscles. It has been specifically adapted to improve your Golf game by developing flexibility and strength in your body.

All Levels of Fitness Catered For:
We explain each step in detail, demonstrate the move first and check your progress all the time. We cater for differing fitness and skill levels.

It may sound strange, but getting your breathing correct, before using muscles is the key to muscle efficiency and effective use of your body for delivering maximum strength and accuracy in your swing.

Six Week Courses:
We can run a six week course at your club for small groups. We tend to offer mixed classes. However, with the right numbers of participants, we can offer 'ladies' or 'gents' only groups. If you would like to organise a course for your club, ring us on 01634 260700, but remember to put your name on the list first; if you are going to go on the course yourself, as courses can get booked up very quickly.

Flexibility, Strength and Consistency:
You can see from the illustrations above, just how many positions your body goes through in the course of a swing. The aim here isn't to analyse how good this ladies swing is or not, but to demonstrate that in order to maintain a consistent swing, one needs to have flexibility, strength and consistency. Pilates Golf can help you achieve this by exercising the muscles you use at each stage of the swing and during the follow-through. Many golfers complain of having a 'bad back'. This can be easily caused by carrying your golf bag on the same shoulder all the time or pulling your trolley with the same arm. The same can be said for how you retrieve your golf ball from the hole, the picture above shows just what happens to your body when you bend. In this example the head is arched back quite severely (hyper-extension of neck), putting unnecessary strain on your neck (cervical spine).

Benefits:

  • Increased Strength - particularly back and abdominals
  • Increased Flexibility
  • Improved Posture
  • Increased Body Tone & Bone Density (which reduces health risks)
  • Improved Balance & Control
  • Improved Ease & Co-ordination of Movement
  • Heightened sense of well being and body awareness

The Importance of Having Balance:
The Pilates Golf course explains the importance of having balance in what we do (the same is true in all areas of our life) What we do on one side of the body, we need to do on the other side to create balance. We are not suggesting you play one hole 'right handed' and the next hole 'left handed', (although your body would really benefit from that approach). We suggest you have an awareness of how your body and your muscles work, then think about how you can introduce the exercises we teach, to improve your game. We may not be able to make you a professional golfer, but we can help you enjoy your game more and be safer in the process. We look forward to meeting you on the course.

Do You Cover the UK?
Although Pilates Golf is based in Kent we can offer six week courses around the country at your own golf club, with a minimum of ten participants.

How Many Can Attend a Class?
Classes are a minimum of 10 to a maximum of 20 participants in a group, depending on the available space at your club. We provide you with the necessary time for personal attention (as required and as appropriate). Classes are normally mixed, men and women; with all levels of fitness catered for, however, numbers permitting we can offer 'ladies' or 'men' only groups if required.
